Stories of change, strength and possibility
Canvas of Change is an evolving photographic exhibition by Daughters of Tomorrow that brings the lived experiences of lower-income women to life through portraiture and personal narrative.
Through their stories, perspectives and aspirations, the exhibition invites audiences to see each woman as a whole person — beyond labels and circumstances — and to recognise the web of community, coaching and partnership that helps her move forward.
Stories behind the portraits
Natasha
"I don't want to spend the rest of my life just surviving. I want to create a life where I could be proud of."
A single mother of three, Natasha spent many years working in F&B before deciding to change careers and challenge herself in a completely new field. Through DOT, she received guidance while developing her home-based business and later explored new employment opportunities. She eventually transitioned into interior design, where she is still learning and building experience. For Natasha, change is about investing in herself, embracing new beginnings and showing her children that it is never too late to start over. She hopes to build a stable future while continuing to grow, learn and become someone she can be proud of.

Jansline
"Whatever I learn in class, I share with my children. We quarrel less, communicate more, and grow together."
When Jansline, a single mother of three children with special needs, was first referred to DOT, she felt alone, overwhelmed and "messy" in her own words. Through DOT programmes and a community of women, she has grown into someone who describes herself as comfortable and confident in daily life. She shares what she learns in class with her children so that the whole family quarrels less and communicates more.

Ling Ling
"Over time, it became clear this wasn't just teaching – it was a joint journey. We learned from their resiliency and perseverance."
The Great Eastern team runs workplace digital literacy classes with DOT women and describes the experience as deeply meaningful. Week after week, they watched participants juggle family responsibilities yet still show up hungry to learn. Over time, strangers became a group that learned and grew together, building trust and courage to ask questions, open up about life challenges and share personal aspirations in a safe environment.

Angelia
"You're the average of your five friends – when women move forward together, they give each other support and a sense of belonging."
Over four years with DOT, Angelia has moved from trainer to trainer-of-trainers and curriculum developer. She's seen women shift from defining everything as "get a job" to expanding their visions of what life can be. She treasures the small moments — like a child seeing their mother's vision board — that light up the room, and believes in the power of community: women growing together, supporting one another as they move forward.
